Wednesday - what is worth knowing before the 1st episode of the Netflix series? A guide to the world of a spooky girl

Wednesday- co warto wiedzieć przed 1 odcinkiem serialu Netfliksa? Przewodnik po świecie upiornej dziewczynki

It all started with a comic book...

wednesday 2 Charles Samuel Addams was born on January 7, 1912 in Westfield and was an American caricaturist, illustrator and dark humor fantasy artist. He was the author of the comic strip, which was published in The New Yorker in 1938. It was about a ghostly family whose interests included the macabre, the color black and an obsession with death.

However, an interesting fact is that this family was never named. Despite everything, it gained enormous popularity and love from readers. So great that they finally started talking about transferring the comic book to the silver screen.

Then, for the needs of the series, the family got its name - after the creator, and from then on it was known in pop culture as the Addams Family.

TV series, movies, cartoons.

- The above-mentioned series debuted in 1964... and was canceled just two years later, after sixty-four episodes. He did not achieve any significant success.
- Nevertheless, it went down in television history because it contained intriguing set design elements related to the life of the Addams, which was full of references to death, darkness and gore culture.
- The famous finger-snapping theme music, which was smuggled into the Netflix series, also comes from this series.
- In 2010, they tried to translate the language of the comic book into the language of Broadway and a musical was launched, which had poor reviews... and a great audience.
- In 2019, an animation in the world of Addams appeared.
- And in 2022, the series " Wednesday " debuted on Netflix and the world went crazy for a slightly eccentric girl whose weapon is sarcasm and a love of the macabre.

Wednesday, i.e. Tim Burton in the world of teenagers.

Tim Burton is a director who creates a dark, gothic atmosphere in his films, and their heroes are often pale and anemic characters who cannot cope with the surrounding reality. For this reason, The Addams Family seemed like the right material for him to create a new story.

This time, however, it did not focus on the entire spooky family, but on the Addams' daughter, who goes to a new boarding school and there witnesses events that make her... delighted with their monstrosity. Well, near Nevermore Academy, which gathers students with paranormal abilities (such as mermaids, werewolves and vampires), several murders take place.

Heroes of the series:

wednesday 3Wednesday Addams is played by Jenna Ortega, who, despite her young age, has already appeared in many film and television productions. The main character of the series solves the mystery of mysterious murders and at the same time struggles with her acquired abilities.

• The biggest star of the series is undoubtedly Catherine Zeta-Jones, who plays Morticia Addams, but her role is marginal because the series focuses on the younger generation.

• It is the young actors, students of the Nevermore Academy to which Wednesday goes, who are the main characters of the story. Xavier (played by Percy Hynes White) and Tyler (played by Hunter Doohan) are fighting for the main character's heart, and her boarding school friend is a young werewolf named Enid.

• The boarding school matron was played by Christina Ricci, who played the role of Wednesday Addams in the film version, and this is one of the Easter eggs included in the series.

• Wednesday's characteristic hero is also the Hand, an animated hand that fits the atmosphere of the spooky family and plays the role of a helper.

Wednesday Phenomenon.

The marriage of the world of Addams with the aesthetics of Tim Burton in the world of teenagers turned out to be a global success.

It became the third most watched series on Netflix, and the main character's dancing scene was a hit on TikTok. Teenagers around the world began to recreate Wednesday's makeup, gothic outfits and mannerisms. Wednesday , just like the entire Addams Family, has become an icon of pop culture, and the announced second season of the series can only strengthen this success.
