How to solve a rubik's cube? We give you a hint!

Jak ułożyć kostkę rubika? Podpowiadamy!

Tomasz Woźniak |

The Rubik's Cube , this colorful puzzle, has for a long time been considered an unsolvable puzzle for many of us. But is it really as difficult as it is commonly believed? It turns out that with the right amount of determination and patience, as well as thanks to intuitive tips, almost anyone can learn to assemble this iconic toy. In this article, we will introduce you step by step to the LBL (Layer By Layer) method, also known as "layering", which is considered one of the easiest techniques to master the art of solving a 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube .

The history of the Rubik's cube

The Rubik's Cube , also known as the "magic cube", was invented in 1974 by the Hungarian sculptor and architect, Ernő Rubik. Initially, it was intended to serve as a teaching aid in teaching spatial thinking among his students. To the surprise of the creator himself, the cube quickly gained enormous popularity around the world, becoming an icon of popular culture in the 1980s.

Rubik's puzzle family

In addition to the classic 3x3x3 cube, the Rubik's puzzle family includes many other interesting variants, such as:

  • 2x2x2 cube - a simplified version of the classic cube,
  • 4x4x4 and 5x5x5 cube - larger and more complicated versions,
  • Rubik's pyramid - four-sided puzzle,
  • Skewb cube - cube with shifts,
  • Megaminx - a twelve-sided "supercube".

Each of them is a fascinating challenge for lovers of logical puzzles.

Construction of a 3x3x3 Rubik's cube

The standard 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube consists of 26 smaller cubes, called "cubies". Among them we distinguish:

  • 6 central cubes (one on each side)
  • 12 edge cubes
  • 8 corner cubes

Each of these cubes has a different color combination, which makes the entire puzzle unique.

Movement markings

To precisely describe individual movements, standard letter markings are used:

  • U - upper wall (English: Up)
  • D - lower wall (English: Down)
  • F - front wall
  • B - back wall
  • R - right wall
  • L - left wall (English: Left)

Movements can be made clockwise (without an apostrophe) or counterclockwise (with an apostrophe). Additionally, the move marked x2 means a rotation of 180 degrees.

First steps - how to solve a Rubik's cube?

Solving a Rubik's Cube using the LBL (Layer By Layer) method involves gradually arranging individual layers. First, we create a cross on the bottom layer, matching the edges to the centers of the adjacent walls. Then we place the corners of the bottom layer in the right places using the algorithm: `RUR' U'`. The next step is to move the edges from the top layer to the appropriate places in the middle layer using the algorithms: `URU' R' U' F' UF` (for edges to the right) and `U' L' ULUFU' F'` (for edges to the right left). Then we create a cross on the top layer using the algorithm: `FRUR' U' F'`, and then we place the edges in the right places using the algorithm: `RUR' UR U2 R'`. After this step, we place the corners in the right places using the algorithm: `URU' L' UR' U' L`, and finally we rotate the corners to the right places using the algorithm: `R' D' RD`. We repeat these algorithms until the entire cube is solved.

Congratulations!

If you've followed all the steps in the video above, you can be proud - you've just learned how to solve the classic 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube ! Remember that with practice and determination you can become a true expert in this field. We wish you many hours of fascinating fun and satisfaction from overcoming new challenges!
