The story of Grandma and Grandpa's Day
Grandma's Day has been celebrated in Poland since 1966. On January 21, the "evening express" announced this day as Grandma's Day. This holiday was inspired by an event from 1964, at which time the play "Trees Die, Standing" was performed in Poznań, with Mieczysława Ćwiklińska playing the role of the grandmother. At that time, she celebrated her 85th birthday, and to celebrate this anniversary, Ryszard Donecki gives her a gift on Grandma's Day .
Grandfather's Day probably came to us from America and is celebrated on January 22 .
Grandma and Grandpa's Day - around the world
It's a day to celebrate the beautiful relationships between grandparents and grandchildren. Grandparents are valuable pillars of our family, and their role in everyone's life is unique and irreplaceable.
Different countries celebrate Grandfather's Day on different days, and some celebrate Grandfather's Day and Grandmother's Day separately, just like our country.
- France
In France, Grandma's Day was introduced in 1987 by a coffee brand known as Kraft Jacobs Suchard Group, and was later officially added to the French calendars and is celebrated on the first Sunday in March.
- Netherlands
In the Netherlands, Opa en Oma Dag was established in 2004 and falls on June 4. This day was designed as a day when grandparents/great-grandparents can spend time doing enjoyable activities with their grandchildren. A common tradition promoted during this holiday is the adoption of a grandparent for one day or for life.
- Spain
Grandmother's and Grandfather's Day in Spain is celebrated on July 26 along with the feast of St. Joachim and Saint Anna, parents of Mary, mother of Jesus.
- United States
In the United States, Grandparents' Day is celebrated on the first Sunday after Labor Day in 1978. It was the first country to celebrate Grandparents' Day.
- Canada.
Canada started celebrating Grandparents' Day in 1995. A bill was passed in the House of Commons which suggested that a specific day should be observed in honor of all grandparents. The day is celebrated to recognize the importance of grandparents in society. The second Sunday of September each year is celebrated as "National Grandparents' Day".
- Mexico
Every year on August 28, Mexicans celebrate the presence of their grandmothers and grandfathers. In Mexico, grandparents often live in the same household as their children and grandchildren, and they are therefore a very active part of their children's lives. On this day, Mexican children give their grandmothers and grandfathers handmade gifts for Grandparents' Day and send heartfelt letters to thank them for the role they played in their lives. Another way to celebrate Grandparents' Day is to make a donation to charity. Mexico also celebrates the International Day of Older Persons. It aims to shed light on common issues that older people face.
