two drinking straws Have you ever wondered why there are two straws in your drink while sitting with friends in a nice place? You started asking yourself existential questions to find the answer to this thought that was troubling you, but you couldn't come up with anything sensible... we're in a hurry to help!

A brief history of the long straw.

Straws have been accompanying us with almost every drink for many years, where did they come from and why have they become so popular? We reveal the truth about them.

It is assumed that straws have been with us for a very long time. The oldest existing drinking straw was found in a Sumerian tomb dating back to 3000 BC. However, it was reinvented in 1888, when an American created a straw that did not alter the taste of his drinks.

two drinking straws More than 40 years later, a flexible straw was patented in San Francisco. A resident of this city noticed that his daughter had trouble drinking a tall milkshake through a straight straw, so he wanted to make it easier for her and folded the upper part of the straw so that it could flow. Nowadays, straws have returned to their traditional paper form, making their plastic sisters a thing of the past. For the sake of the environment, reusable straws have also been created, they are made of bamboo, rice and seaweed.

Paper straws are taking over the market due to restrictions and requirements that companies must meet to care for our planet. Metal straws are another reusable alternative. However, they conduct heat very well and are therefore not suitable for hot drinks.

So why two straws in drinks?

After many hours of painstaking research, it turns out that there are several reasons why bartenders serve cocktails with two straws .

Two straws? A slight exaggeration or perhaps a necessary procedure.

two drinking straws The art of serving cocktails is not as easy as it may seem. The main function of the straw is to allow the taster to enjoy the drink without touching the ice with his lips and tongue.

  • 1. Makes drinking easier - sometimes a drink has a specific consistency, it contains pieces of fruit, etc., so two straws are used to make drinking more pleasant.
  • 2. Two straws for two people - for larger, large-volume drinks. Customers then help each other and drink from one glass.
  • 3. Two straws make drinking faster - if two straws are used, the customer will quickly finish the cocktail and order a new one.
  • 4. To distinguish cocktails - sometimes in an atmospheric bar it is easy to make a mistake, for this reason bartenders mark drinks by putting one or two straws in them, depending on whether the drink is alcoholic or on the contrary.
  • 5. Distinctive taste and beauty - external qualities are very important when presenting drinks. That's why two straws are sometimes used to take care of this visual aspect.

Straws and ecology - an eternal struggle

The production of plastic straws contributed little to oil consumption and environmental pollution, but the image of a plastic straw in a sea turtle's nostril quickly spread around the world and caused an uproar.

This has increased awareness of the potential threat that plastic straws pose to marine life.

In the late 2010s, there was a movement toward regulations banning or otherwise restricting the use of plastic straws and other single-use plastics.

Now you know, the mystery is solved - do whatever you want with this information, keep it to yourself or show it to your friends.
