DID YOU KNOW THAT... A candle has always had a symbolic meaning. One of them was comparing it to the four elements, where air is the escaping smoke, water refers to liquid wax, wick means the earth, and fire is contained in a bright, intense, slightly flickering flame.
Light, a sense of security, an easily accessible climate, a pleasant smell and a sense of blissful relaxation. We are talking about candles, especially soy candles, which are increasingly conquering the handmade market.
Soy candles are becoming more and more popular
It all starts with the wax from which the candle is made. It is of key importance when selecting candles, their price and functionality. The most popular candles are still paraffin ones, which, despite their attractive price, have many side effects, such as depletion of natural resources, environmental pollution, and even painful migraines. An alternative to them are much more expensive candles made of beeswax, which have many health and cleansing applications and a characteristic honey scent. Soy candles, on the other hand, are increasingly becoming an ecological price compromise with countless scents.
Do it yourself, or how to make a soy candle?
To make a unique soy candle yourself, you will need: soy wax, wick, candle form/container, fragrance oil, decorations and periwinkles, a wooden stick to keep the wick in a vertical position, a stick for mixing the wax, a kitchen thermometer, and a metal vessel for dissolving the wax.
Once we have everything gathered or we use ready-made soy candle making kits, it's time to start the process of creating our handmade candle, which we present to you in 5 simple steps.
Step 1. Place the wick
We place the wick in the container and keep it vertical with a wooden stick.
Step 2. Water bath
Leave the soy wax in a water bath in a metal pot placed on the stove, not exceeding the temperature of 90 degrees.
Step 3. Time for the essential oil
After melting, we remove the container from the bath and wait until it cools down to 55-60 degrees and add a few drops of the fragrance oil of our choice.
Step 4. Melting the wax
Pour the melted wax into a previously prepared container. When the wax begins to harden and become matte, we add the decorations we choose to the candles.
Step 5. Almost ready!
Let the candles cool down at room temperature, remove the sticks, trim the wicks and enjoy your handmade soy candle.
